The Game Called Love

Here we are again after a long week of blissful silence. Wraped by the motherly arms of a cool evening, my mind wandered back to high school where the common pathetic experience of a fantasizing young man is always felt. Seeing a belle and concluding immediately "I'am in love" . I decided to write something on this and came up with this article titled,"The Game Called Love" Even after receiving edulation from various people who read this article, I'm still not convinced that I wrote something interesting, but I guess I'll leave it to my esteemed readers to decide. Happy Reading... THE GAME CALLED LOVE Staring dumbstruck at her face, struck dead by her charm, mesmerized by her beauty, he stood on his numb toes hearing only one sound- the melodious rhythm of her voice as it reverberated through the corridor. The world became silent as needles from heaven dropped in form of her voice. Only when this melody gave up to the noise of his classroom did his five senses jump back to normal. Her elfin face didn’t help reality as she turned away from the rest of the classroom and smiled at him. For a second, his heart dropped dead followed spontaneously by hours of rambling questions echoing in his youthful mind. His focal point lost its bearing, disrupted by flashes of her beatific smile. He never felt she would ever cast a glance at his side. He remembered he had a project to execute and as he stared at his notebook, the words froze him beyond death. She had delivered a lecture titled “The Game Called Love”. The last four letters increased the tempo of his heart beat. The smile which followed pumped adrenaline into his lower body. Suddenly, he discovered, he was in LOVE! A nerd falling in love a week to his final examination was no small deal. He had topped a class of twenty-five students for three straight years and wasn’t ready to compromise. The rest of the week was tortuous. As fate would have it, she became his partner in class and sat right in front of him during his examination. The scent of her hair injected into his nostrils each time she flung her hair disrupted his clear thinking. Her gentle voice sweeping through his pinna like the soft whisper of the sea, punctured with concern apparently ran him mad. Was she crushing on him? No, she was way out of his league. Girls of her clique didn’t fall in love with shrewd guys like him. He couldn’t even say a word as he was tongue-tied by her overpowering presence. Hell!, he couldn’t go on a date with her unless she was a maths student whom he would be teaching algebra over dinner. As the examination was coming to a class, his tongue loosened not out of bravery but out of the ‘date in disguise’ which he had with her every evening teaching her mathematics upon her request. The bells rung and he breathed a sigh of relief. High school was over and he could finally have a girlfriend. There was only one girl in his mind. Running past the examination block through the school corridor like a mad man chased by a madder man, he had series of rehearsals on what words to say to her. One more turn to the left, few steps north and he stopped jaw-dropped. His glistening eyes glowed in the dark corridor. He was at the front of the class, five steps to his hopefully would-be girlfriend but his whole body shook from head to toe not from fear but from something stronger. She stood beside a window kissing his only friend in class for minutes of lust mingled with love which seemed like the longest moments of death. This time, adrenaline rushed into his upper body. The words rang in his ear once more. The words said before the four words which brought the smile- “Don’t hate the player, hate the game” THE GAME CALLED LOVE… “Honey, rise and shine” “Uhhh?? She married me?” “Its your first day of school” “SCHOOOOOOOOOOOOL???!!! IT WAS ALL A DREAM!!!
